My Approach

I believe that scholarship and activism are inseparable. My work in the community grows directly from my research on language, identity, and power. Whether advocating for immigrant language rights, building literacy programs, or pushing for equity in education, I draw on the same conviction: that stories and languages carry the power to transform lives and systems.

Initiatives

Community Literacy Programs

I co-founded and direct a community literacy initiative in Toronto that offers free reading, writing, and storytelling workshops for newcomer families. The program operates in partnership with local libraries and settlement agencies, serving over 200 participants each year.

Language Rights Advocacy

As a member of the Ontario Language Rights Coalition, I advocate for policies that protect the linguistic rights of immigrant and refugee communities. This includes lobbying for multilingual public services, heritage language education funding, and fair language assessment practices.

Equity in Education

I work with York University's Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion on campaigns to address systemic barriers in higher education. Recent efforts focus on inclusive curriculum design, anti-racist pedagogy workshops, and mentorship programs for first-generation students.

Speaking & Community Events

I regularly speak at community forums, school boards, and public panels on topics including the politics of language, literature as resistance, and building inclusive classrooms. I also organize the annual "Words & Justice" symposium at York University, bringing together scholars, writers, and activists.

Get Involved

If you are interested in volunteering, collaborating, or learning more about any of these initiatives, please get in touch. I am always looking for partners — whether community organizations, fellow educators, or students eager to make a difference.
